Imogen is a Mataiapo (traditional leader) in Rarotonga, with a background in accountancy and political studies. For the past 10 years, she has acted as community advocate on sustainable development, focusing on such issues as impacts on human health and the environment of climate change; chemicals and wastes [including mercury contamination and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as pesticides]; water and sanitation in relation to both marine and freshwater ecosystems; and environmentally sound waste management.
